Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Scott WalkerTilt

I listened to this at a time when I didn’t want to be an actor anymore. I was more than unhappy and a bit lost. I wanted to sing, but there was a voice in my head that said “you can’t, because it won’t fit anywhere”. I faced this inner voice with Tilt, which had meshed up electronic sounds with a classically trained voice. Tilt is always my answer to these kinds of destructive thoughts, because it paved the way for the sort of music I wanted to make. This record was closest to the world I wanted to be in and it reminded me that this person was doing it.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Gavin Friday, Mabe Fratti, Simon Fisher Turner, Tom Fleming, Arabrot
