6. Alice ColtraneUniversal Consciousness

There are people that become ubiquitous in the culture and now it’s the time of Alice Coltrane, like Nina Simone or Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou. It doesn’t diminish them as long as you listen to the music, which is incredible, and Universal Consciousness is the one that does it for me, especially ‘Hare Krishna’. It’s so sweeping and expansive and the movements are so exquisite. I’m always astounded by how it hits you; it’s so powerful and subtle and there really is no mistaking it when it makes these moves.
