Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Vernon WrayWasted

I knew nothing about this record. I just saw it in a record shop. Unlike my knowledge now where I know one more Wray in my life, before that there was only one Wray. I spent years talking about the Link Wray albums, the 1970s Polydor albums are just magic pieces of work. So effortless. So when I found this record [by his older brother] it was one of those albums that has no right to be this good. Songs like ‘Lonely Son’ are just classics. It’s like, how did I not know that? How has that not found its way into my life before? This was made at their own three track family recording studio so it’s a really minimal recording. This record is just another piece of magic.
