7. Max RichterFrom Sleep

This was a good counterbalance when we were making Boy King as it is, in many ways, a record with a lot of attitude, a lot of swagger. Also melodically, this began to bleed in a little. There are vocal synthesisers on the record, and vocal melodies which are angled slightly the way they are because of Max Richter. This record makes me feel good about the world. It’s so beautiful and sometimes you need reminding of the beauty.

Put it this way: our 2016 started with flying to Dallas on the day that Bowie died. And I recently returned from Dallas – I continue to go to there because I fell in love with the place when we were recording – and I was downtown earlier in the day before what happened in Dallas. And I actually left for America the day the referendum vote came in, that day when we [the country] all woke up with the worst hangover we could ever have imagined.
