It is one of those things where I play it to my kids and it connects straight away. What the heck is this? They love it. It just cuts through. The use of instruments is sublime and so weird and brilliant. Those melodies! I like a lot of his earlier stuff. There is something about his music and the landscape of the films. When I hear the music, I can see it, I can smell it. In terms of soundtracks, this is the very best. Maybe there is a whole load of Italian composers using those instruments, but I don’t know them.
