7. New OrderBrotherhood

New Order are a band I really love, and they’ve been quite influential on my work as Blood Orange. Brotherhood is an interesting album, it’s not usually the first one people mention when talking about New Order favourites, but for me, it holds a special place. I remember having a cassette of it and learning every song by heart, playing along obsessively.

What’s incredible about Brotherhood is the way it fuses live instrumentation with technology. It’s something that Power, Corruption & Lies also achieves, but on this record, there’s a rawness that really speaks to me. That combination of precision and imperfection, of human touch and electronic clarity, is something I’ve always tried to channel in my own music. It’s an album that feels alive, and I keep returning to it for inspiration.
