4. Teenage FanclubA Catholic Education

It’s not one I listen to very often but it’s one where I have a distinct memory of its sound. It’s a fantastic sounding record. The vocals are almost buried, and the guitars just sound like… incredible really, really thick sounding somewhere in the beat. Then they did an LP with a Madonna song on it didn’t they, and changed and had a completely different sound and went massive. I liked Bandwagonesque at the time for a while. Reminds me of a nice nap. [Laughs] It’s beautiful, a bit harder. But A Catholic Education is weird and dreamy. I couldn’t imagine anyone being like them from England, they were very Scottish. The lyrics are great, they sound a bit like Mary Chain but with none of that angry attitude.
