The Downliners Sect – ‘Hang On Sloopy’

Best version of ‘Hang On Sloopy’ ever – absolute genius – and they’re my favourite British group. The original is great, which makes the Downliners Sect’s version even more remarkable, because they shouldn’t have been able to do it any better. I discovered the band through Bruce from The Headcoats long after they recorded this. When I was a kid, I listened to The Beatles, Stones and Kinks, then Hendrix – more mainstream groups – then I came across a lot of the smaller bands later.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
