Kraftwerk – The Man-Machine (Kling Klang, 1978)
I have fond memory of dancing in clubs in Cologne to German versions of ‘The Man-Machine’. Also have you listened to ‘Neon Lights’ on acid? [Yes. With our good friend Jonny Mugwump many moons ago, Ed] Believe me it’s a religious experience, it’s like getting a lift up to God.
Kraftwerk were essential to hip hop and techno. Have you heard Afrika Bambaataa’s version of ‘Trans Europe Express’ [‘Planet Rock’]?
The three godfathers of techno openly admit their influences are Kraftwerk and the The Man Machine album in particular.
