T. Rex – T. Rex

I was 12 in 1970, when this came out. They were just starting to drop songs like ‘Get It On’ and ‘Ride A White Swan’ around this time. So this was the first album I ever bought, with Mickey Finn still playing on percussion. Things like this and Mungo Jerry were really setting the vibe – Jerry had hits like ‘You Don’t Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War’. There was a real mood to 1970. In those days it wasn’t quite yet glam, but you were just having to start dressing up if you wanted to be a pop star. Watching Top Of The Pops, looking at the images of in all the magazines, all of a sudden it was stupidly, outrageously dressed people. Side by side with this I was listening to soul and reggae which were very strong at the time.
