In the run up to the release of Flying Lotus’ new album Until The Quiet Comes, out on October 1 via Warp, the label has previewed a collaborative track with Erykah Badu from the LP:
‘See Thru To U’ showcases Lotus’ mastery of jazz musicianship, which at times gets a little overbearing. Frantic jazz bass work is accompanied by some equally hectic percussion; both are beautifully recorded and interspersed with the silky smooth wailings of Badu, contributing to a pleasantly organic-feeling atmosphere, characteristic of FlyLo’s previous work.
Structurally, though, the track is quite hard to access, its fast-paced nature rarely slowing for breathing room. Having said this, if there is one thing that FlyLo has demonstrated in the past, it’s that his releases often stand up better listened to as a whole, which only lends more anticipation to the release.
