New Depeche Mode Album Due Early 2013

Dave Gahan says that new “bluesy” album will be "finished by the end of the year"

Depeche Mode’s new album, their twelfth studio effort, is on its way by the end of year, according to Clash magazine. As we reported in May, around 20 songs have been recorded, which should see a release in 2013 with a supporting tour.

The band have been working with producer Christoffer Berg, who’s formerly helmed The Knife and Fever Ray records, in California. In the Clash interview, frontman Dave Gahan said the album would be “finished by the end of the year”.

Talking about the new LP’s sound, Gahan said: “Just because it’s another electronic record doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have a certain edge to it. That’s what we’re getting with this. That’s what’s exciting with the Depeche record. We’re definitely going down that road, where we’ve got a lot more bluesy influence on it, and we’re trying to retain that more in the recording and not get too over-fussed about details.”
