Gallons of midnight oil were burned in Washington DC this past weekend as the Republicans and Democrats battled over budgetary issues that could have resulted in the shutdown of many of the operations of the US state. One of the politicians involved in the debate, US congresswoman Donna Edwards, used the White Stripes track ‘Effect and Cause’ to highlight "all the seniors, servicemen and women, and children who would be affected by a government shutdown."
