A new vinyl pressing plant in the US will focus on supporting independent ventures once it is fully launched.
As profiled in the New York Times, Independent Record Pressing is aiming to solely service small labels that have seen their business models suffer as a result of major labels joining the demand for vinyl releases now that it is experiencing a renaissance somewhat. Based in New Jersey, it says it aims to press 1.5 million records and year when it’s fully running. “The dream is to build capacity for our label and provide a service for the indie labels that I love and respect so much and at the same time, make a few bucks too,” said owner David Hansen. Many pressing plants are under severe strain as a result of increased demand so news of a plant solely dedicated to serving independent labels will come as welcome relief to the small labels that can see their release schedules severely affected each year in the wake of such events as Record Store Day.
