The National have announced that their sixth studio album, Trouble Will Find Me (artwork above), will be released on May 20 via 4AD.
The album is again self-produced album and was recorded at the Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, New York, following up 2010’s High Violet.
In an interview with Uncut, lead singer Matt Berninger commented: "For the past 10 years we’d been chasing something, wanting to prove something. And this chase was about trying to disprove our own insecurities. After touring High Violet, I think we felt like we’d finally gotten there. Now we could relax – not in terms of our own expectations but we didn’t have to prove our identity any longer."
Guitarist Aaron Dessner added: "Our ideas would immediately click with each other. It’s free-wheeling again. The songs on one level are our most complex, and on another they’re our most simple and human. It just feels like we’ve embraced the chemistry we have."
Ahead of the album’s release, Tom Berninger, younger brother of the singer, will be releasing his documentary of the band’s 22-month High Violet tour, Mistaken For Strangers, before the band embark on another world tour, with UK dates yet to be released.
