LISTEN: Prurient – ‘I Understand You’

Taken from a split with JK Flesh

As we’ve previously reported, long-running US noise/hardcore/metal label Hydra Head is set to shut up shop after releasing a final few records. It follows a 17 year tenure where they’ve released excellent music from artists including Jesu, Isis, Pelican, Khanate, Prurient, Cave In, Converge and a whole host more.

Now Pitchfork report that the label’s final release is set to be a belter: a full-length split between Dominick Fernow’s Prurient and Justin K Broadrick’s JK Flesh. Both artists have featured heavily in the Quietus’ listening over the last couple of years – Fernow’s Vatican Shadow project has been incredibly productive this year, Prurient’s Bermuda Drain landed in our favourite albums of 2011, and JK Flesh’s Posthuman has been one of our most listened-to records of 2012. The split is apparently set for release in early December, and in the meantime if you head across to Pitchfork you can listen to a Prurient track from the split entitled ‘I Understand You’. It continues further down the sand-blasted, circuit-bent noise route he’s been taking with Vatican Shadow as of late, and by Fernow’s standards is low-key and rather pretty. Click here to listen.
